The 50th anniversary of HLB in Germany once again emphasises the importance of network exchange, cooperation and pooling expertise

HLB, a network of 23 independent tax advisory and auditing firms throughout Germany, is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary in Germany. Shortly after the international HLB network was founded in New York in 1969, the current members HTG Schomerus in Hamburg and HLB Treumerkur in Wuppertal paved the way for the network's involvement in Germany. "Tax and commercial law has changed enormously in recent decades and has always been dynamic, constantly presenting professionals with new challenges. Pooling specialist knowledge and expertise in a network and thus being able to provide expert advice on specific issues has become more important than ever," says HLB Chairman Dr Claus Nieman, describing the basic idea behind the network.

Once again, this 50-year consistency also shows the importance of overarching networking - both nationally and internationally. Advancing globalisation, internationally standardised regulations and increasing digitalisation have placed great demands on the industry in recent years. "Our cross-firm and often international HLB specialist groups on current developments in tax and commercial law, such as the EU-wide VAT reform or digitalisation, are actively involved in shaping the practical implementation of new legislation," Niemann continues. The network also represents the interests of its members at a political level, both in Germany and within the EU.

Today, with 225 partners and more than 2,000 employees, HLB is one of the top 3 networks in Germany in the field of tax and legal advice and auditing. "We are proud of our good international connections, long-standing contacts and friendships," continues Niemann. "We look forward to developing HLB into a network that is equipped for the future and to continuing to provide our members with professional support, further training programmes and an open ear for their concerns.

The 50th anniversary of the network in Germany was celebrated at the national HLB autumn conference at the founding location in Wuppertal with participants from numerous countries. The focus was on the topic of "sustainability in the SME sector", which the experts addressed intensively in order to prepare the HLB network for upcoming challenges and a sustainable future - entirely in the interests of their clients.
